The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
What started as a fairly quiet week rapidly developed into quite a busy one around The Presbytery . . . . . .
On the Bank Holiday Fr D took the opportunity to get on with some housework (washing, hoovering, cleaning, etc.), before preparing the booklet for this weekend’s Extended Exposition and Benediction.
Before celebrating Mass on Tuesday morning we began celebrating Morning Prayer of the Church once again for the first time since the Covid virus struck last year. Throughout the world priests, religious, and many lay people are celebrating the Prayer of the Church on a regular basis; encouraged by the Church. Having celebrated Mass the Blessed Sacrament was left exposed on the altar for an hour’s exposition (until 11.00) - this too was for the first time since the Covid virus struck last year. All Parishes are recommended to try and make this devotion to the Lord in the Eucharist a part of their community prayer; this, of course, requires that the Parish community are present in sufficient numbers. At lunchtime Fr John McKay came to look at the newly decorated church and was very impressed; afterwards both he and Fr D went off for a pub lunch (- the first since lockdown was relaxed, very nice!).
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday Fr D went off down to Bishop’s House in Brighton to continue with his work in the Marriage Tribunal. Whilst he was in the diocesan IT engineer updated Fr D’s computer to be able to use a diocesan-wide intranet via ‘SharePoint,’ eventually this system will become standard across the diocese (including all the Parishes) which will reduce the amount of paper being used and provide a greater degree of security.
Having celebrated Morning Prayer & Mass on Thursday morning Fr D began work on the newsletter for this week. He was also waiting for two or three deliveries which he had arranged to all come on the same day. At some point during the night he received an email from a parish in the diocese who had just sold off one of it’s churches offering various fitments for collection by any other parish. Fr D was interested in some acolyte candles that match our own - he’s now waiting to hear if we were successful in our bid to give them a new home.
Having celebrated Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D added the finishing touches to the newsletter, wrote the weekly transmission email, the weekly notices, and the Prayers of Intercession (now they are once more allowed at our Sunday Masses).
