The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Being half-term this week, life has been a little bit slower at The Presbytery this week . . . .
On Monday Fr D stayed in for most of the day as the head cold that he thought he had got rid of was back with a vengeance when he woke up. He did go for a walk at Pains Hill but cut it short as he found his breathing becoming more difficult. Come the evening he didn’t even feel like eating and just went off to bed.
Having celebrated Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament Fr D set about re-setting our new electronic contactless payment unit ready for next weekend. The first weekend of using the unit went well without any hiccup - Fr D was very pleased that several parishioners were making use of the new facility. In the coming weeks he thinks that many more will want to take advantage of this method of giving.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday Fr D was off in the car down to Bishop’s House ready to wear his other hat, reading a couple of marriage cases that are fast heading to the final stages of the annulment process. In the evening he was writing several emails to try and follow up his enquiries regarding selling surplus solar electricity to one of the power companies.
Due to the extra Bank Holidays for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee things really got quiet on Thursday and Friday this week. Because Sarah was not in the Parish Office the newsletter was ready before she finished on Wednesday. Fr D set about making some preparations for our Parish First Eucharist Day which will be taking place at the 11.00 Mass on Sunday 19 th June - Corpus Christi - please pray for the young candidates and their families as they approach this special day in their lives.
He also began the necessary preparations for the usual extended period of Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament which will also take place on Corpus Christi; the Blessed Sacrament will be left exposed on the altar from after the 11.00 Mass until 15.00 when there will be a celebration of Evening Prayer & Benediction. (Each parish in the diocese is encouraged to have an extended period of Exposition each year, on or about the solemnity of Corpus Christi.)
There is a sign-up sheet at the rear of the church for parishioners to indicate when they are prepared to spend some time before the Blessed Sacrament on this important occasion; obviously we would like the whole period covered . . . .
