The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Quite a busy week once again around The Presbytery . . . .
After our morning Masses last Sunday Fr D was delighted to baptise a new young man into our Parish Community in the presence of his extended family. One of the questions that Fr D always asks the parents of an infant about to be baptised is “what he like at bathtime?” This gives Fr D a good idea of what might happen at the moment that the water is poured over the infant’s head. This time the answer from the parents was that he loved being in water; and he performed marvellously!
On Monday Fr D spent the morning doing the shopping necessary for our Christmas Bazaar which was to be taking place on Saturday.
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday morning Fr D did some more research and composed a long email to our present electricity providers who have shown themselves to be wholly inept! At the end of June we were given notice that the whole diocese was switching from British Gas to another provider from 1st July. Having done his research and wanting to increase the amount that we receive from Octopus for our surplus solar energy Fr D informed the diocese that Cobham did not want to join the new company and were going with Octopus instead. It turned out that the change had already been enacted and we would need to stay with the new company for a month before the change could be effected. Not happy but accepting this was where we were Fr D arranged for Octopus to ‘take over’ at the end of July. However, the new company objected to us moving and wouldn’t release our meters to Octopus. Since this point Fr D has regularly expressed his frustration with the new company and the fact that they were ignoring instructions. To add insult to injury we started getting their invoices with 20% VAT added when for many years, as a charity, we have been on 5% VAT. Then last week a whole set of new invoices arrived with two showing 5% and two others 20%. They have now been informed that the 5% ones will be paid but the other two need to be recalculated using the 5% rate. They now state that the meters are now free for Octopus to take over (but Fr D is waiting to see what happens when they try!).
Most of Friday this week was spent getting the Parish Centre ready for the annual Parish Christmas Bazaar where Fr D is looking forward to having the Parish work together in a social atmosphere once more . . . . . .
