The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Fr D arrived back from his holiday late on Monday evening and things have ‘taken off’ accordingly since here at The Presbytery . . . . .
On Tuesday Fr D was delighted to be back in a ‘normal routine’ once more, celebrating Morning Prayer, Mass, and the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. When he came in from the church he set about opening and dealing with all the letters that had arrived at the Presbytery for him over the past three weeks. Once he had sorted the ‘junk mail’ from that which needed to be attended to he further divided the remains between himself and Sarah in the Parish Office to be actioned - this took until well into the afternoon to fully complete. Then it was a case of doing very much the same thing with all the emails that had built up in his inbox. By mid evening he still had quite a few left but ‘gave up’ for the day.
After celebrating Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D was off in the car down to Crawley not, this time to the Tribunal Office but to a clergy ‘Adult Mental Heath Awareness’ course that the diocese wants all priests to complete over time. Fr D was pleasantly surprised at just how good the course turn out to be (he hadn’t expected much from it!). By the time he was back home in the evening his ‘Certificate’ was awaiting him on the computer. In the evening, whilst the parish musicians and singers were practising for our Christ Mass Carol Service (17 th December) Fr D returned to working his way through the backlog of emails - completing them just before 22.00!
On Thursday after Morning Prayer, Mass, and a decade of the Rosary after Mass, Fr D was back in the car and down to Crawley once more - this time actually to the Tribunal Office where he started on items that had come in whilst he was away. He was also able to talk with the ‘diocesan property officer’ about our impending roof works (have we got any further along?). Fr D was pleased that things were moving forward even if only at a slow pace.
Friday, having celebrated Morning Prayer, Mass, and the Rosary after Mass, Fr D was putting the finishing touches to this weekend’s newsletter. This took a bit longer than usual because, with his being away, he had run out of partially completed newsletters and had to start from scratch! He also started thinking about our November ’Month of the Dead’ (remember that this weekend is the last opportunity to get any names into the ’Parish Book of the Dead’ before this year’s copy is printed - forms in the narthex, return with Mass envelope to the Presbytery) . . . . . .
