The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Lots of things happening around The Presbytery this week as things ‘step-up’ for the Paschal festivities of Holy Week . . . . .
Last Saturday morning Fr D was celebrating a Children’s Lenten Reconciliation Service for our present First Eucharist Candidates and those who have completed this programme aver the past few years and are still at Primary School.
On Tuesday, after celebrating Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition, Fr D met with one of the two candidates for Reception, Confirmation, and First Eucharist at our Easter Vigil this year. He has now finalised all of the ‘paperwork’ that is necessary for this to take place and is very much looking forward to welcoming them both as full parishioners of the Sacred Heart next Saturday. Both candidates have previously been baptised in another Christian community and, as the Catholic Church recognises these baptisms, therefore will make a Profession of Faith before being Received Into the Church. They will then be Confirmed and celebrate their First Eucharist - all during the Mass on Saturday!
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday, Fr D went off down to the diocesan offices in Crawley for the last time before Easter to ‘write-up’ Sentences for the judgements that he held last week, he was also hoping that he’d be able to clear his ‘in-tray’ before the Easter holidays. He left Crawley a little earlier than normal in order to receive a body into the church ready for a requiem on Thursday morning. In the evening Fr D went across to St Joseph’s church, Epsom, to help them with their Adult Lenten Reconciliation Service. Whilst there he was recognising what were once young parents and newly-weds who were now grandparents, and children who he took through First Eucharist and Confirmation who were now parents - thirty years is a long time!
There was no Morning Prayer on Thursday as the Mass was a Requiem for one of our parishioners. This was followed by a burial at Randalls Park - the first burial there that Fr D has celebrated since coming to Cobham (he had to force the car to make a left-hand turn after entering the gates, rather than continue up the drive to the crematorium!). In the evening on Thursday Fr D was down at Our Lady of Sorrows church in Effingham where our two parishes were celebrating their Adult Lenten Reconciliation Service. We had four priests ‘on duty’ and Fr D was pleased that they were kept occupied for an hour and a half . . . . .
