The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
After a very busy first part of the week the last few days have been a lot quieter here at The Presbytery . . . .
Last weekend, as far as Fr D was concerned, got off to a very disappointing start as over a third of the congregation at the 18.00 Mass seemed to think it was acceptable to approach the altar for Holy Communion and then to proceed to leave the church straight afterwards, before the end of Mass! This is a very disrespectful habit which needs to end. The Mass is (and has been now for over fifty years) a complete unit beginning with the Entrance Hymn and Ending as the priest gets to the rear of the church during the final hymn - arriving or leaving the church on a regular basis is very sad indeed, much less necessary!
On Sunday afternoon we celebrated the last of our Advent Evening Prayer and Benediction services, giving ourselves once more the chance to get away from the secular hustle and bustle of the run-up to Christmas. Later in the evening the Parish gathered to celebrate our annual Parish Advent Carol Service which our singers and musicians had been practicing for some time. It was very heartening to see a good number of parishioners present at the event, and at the mince pies and mulled wine social in the Parish Centre afterwards.
On Monday evening the Crib was erected and the tree decorated by parishioners, ready for our Christmas celebrations.
Tuesday, after celebrating Mass (no Morning Prayer and Exposition now until 14 th January) our very conscientious team of church cleaners moved in to get the church ready for our Christmas celebrations. The flower ladies also worked their magic, producing a wonderful display as always. In the afternoon Fr D led a service for children placing all the statues (except the baby) into the Crib. Then there was just time for Fr D to sit down with a cup of tea before the first of our four Christmas Masses this year . . . . .
Fr D would like to thank everyone who has sent cards and good wishes for Christmas this year, along with a myriad of presents.
Don’t forget that we now continue our celebration of Christmas throughout Christmastide which this year does not end until 12 th January with the last Mass on the Baptism of the Lord . . . . . . .
