Church Mouse update 29th August 2021
The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A full week around The Presbytery this week . . . . .
On Monday Fr D should have been on his day off but he was trying to ‘get a march’ on various regular things so that the time during his holiday will have all the usual things covered (Newsletters, HubSpot, Intercessions, Notices etc.). He managed to make a small dent in things but at least a start has been made. He also started work on a couple of his homilies for when he gets back, so that he’s not under any great pressure.
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday morning Fr D started looking at the applications for First Reconciliation/Eucharist that have so far been returned - checking that possible candidates have actually been Baptised (or Received into the Church), that they were born before 31st August 2014, and that they are parishioners from the Parish. There are still a few days left until the application cut-off on Tuesday (31st) this week and then the programme launch on the following Tuesday evening (7th September). In keeping with diocesan directives the parents of the candidates are much more involved in the preparation process for these two sacraments now. The Catholic schools undertake general background work in the RE lessons of Year 3, the Parish helps to celebrate various stages of the programme as the candidates work through it, and the Parents are asked to ‘make good’ on the promise that they made at their child’s baptism “to be the first and best of teachers to their child in the ways of faith.”
Once he had celebrated Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday, Fr D was off in his car down to Brighton to see what ‘goodies’ his in-tray were holding in store for him. With the project to re-site all the diocesan offices in Crawley from the middle of next year Fr D has had to move out of his office in Bishop’s House (to allow the schools team in) whilst building works take place at Crawley. He spent some time with a big box of files from the 1970’s sorting out stuff that could now be securely shredded.
On Thursday Fr D was working on the newsletter after Morning Prayer and Mass and thinking about the renewal of Marriage Vows liturgy that he was celebrating on Saturday (for one of his old confirmation candidates in Reigate whom he married during ‘lock-down’ at this time last year in Wimbledon). In the late afternoon Fr D was holding a rehearsal for the renewal of Marriage Vows, making sure that everyone knew what was expected, and when . . . . . . .
