The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A very full week at The Presbytery this time . . . . .
On Sunday Fr D was delighted to celebrate baptism for two families - the first time he has been able to do this outside of Mass for at least eighteen months. Having attended the Parish Baptism Programme the families met with Fr D to arrange the service (hymns and readings) which took place at 12.30. Fr D said that it was “a little return to some normality.”
Whilst waiting for the delivery of a book from the USA on Monday Fr D spent some time preparing Sunday homilies for the next few weeks; this was supposed to have been until the book arrived (scheduled between 10.00 and 12.00), in the event it did not arrive until 16.30 so he managed to get quite a few homilies done. His plan to get to the Cash & Carry during the afternoon did not materialise and needed to be re-scheduled for later in the week. After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Tuesday morning Fr D took the opportunity to get his Cash & Carry run in - he had had a donation to create a hamper for the door prize, and another for some extra ‘filler bottles’ for the Bottle Stall at the Christmas Bazaar. In the evening Fr D was meeting once more with the parents of our First Reconciliation candidates, preparing them for the next session with their children which this time they would be doing on their own because of the Bazaar. After this they have one final session before the candidates celebrate their First Reconciliation at the Advent Children’s Reconciliation Service on Saturday 11th December - the time has gone past very quickly!
On Wednesday after Morning Prayer and Mass there was just enough time for Fr D to have a quick chat with the surveyor undertaking our quinquennial buildings survey before he had to shoot off to the Tribunal in Brighton. When he got back in the late afternoon he went to have a look at the solar panels that were freshly fitted to the sister’s house in the morning as it is the same company (via the local council) that will fit the new one’s for The Presbytery. He was delighted with the way things had been done and how they looked. Owing to the electrician being unwell they hadn’t been ‘wired in’ yet but he’s due on Friday.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Thursday Fr D was meeting with the Permanent Deacon who is the co-ordinator of Family Groups within the diocese (he came and spoke at Masses one weekend before Covid hit). He was keen to bring news from other groups around the diocese and talk about ‘starting up’ again now that Covid restrictions were easing . . . . . . .
