The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
It was ‘all hands to the pumps’ this week around The Presbytery as things moved into top gear for our annual Christmas Bazaar . . . . .
On Monday morning this week Fr D was at Notre Dame School to celebrate their major feast day of the year ‘The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.’ All the students from the school along with teachers, ancillary staff and parents were gathered in the school sports hall for the celebration of Mass during which two of the senior students led an act of re-dedication to the ideals of St Jeanne de Lustonnac for the education of girls. In the afternoon Fr D was off on a shopping run for the Bazaar and was delighted to get hold (amongst other things) of a tin of cream, the final item he had listed for the Christmas Hamper in the Grand Draw!
After celebrating Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament Fr D joined some parishioners who made a start on preparing the Bottle Tombola stall by labelling the bottles donated by many parishioners. At lunchtime he was at a local hostelry for lunch with three people who were retiring from working with the Marriage Tribunal. Together these lay volunteers had contributed over seventy-five years of service as Defenders of the Bond and a Judge in the Tribunal. Two were presented with the Diocesan St Philip Howard Medal and we are still waiting on Rome for an award for the third!
On Wednesday, after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D set about really chasing up on sorting the issue of our contactless giving machine and it’s recent sporadic down-time. An engineer had been to visit and suggested that there was a WiFi issue (things had been fine for three months before Fr D went on holiday?). After much discussion and an assurance that it would fix the issue Fr D agreed that a wired access point be fitted in the gallery area of the church (timed to be done on Friday after Mass).
On Thursday Fr D was down at the Tribunal Office in Crawley after Morning Prayer and Mass where he had an interview to conduct with a priest witness in one of his marriage cases. In the evening, when he came home, he had the first Candidate Session for this year’s Confirmation Programme.
On Friday after Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D awaited the engineer for the new access point in the church before turning the rest of the day over to the immediate preparation of the Parish Centre for our Christmas Bazaar . . . . .
