The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A very busy week as Fr D got things ready for the time that he is away on holiday and got his packing done . . . . . .
Monday didn’t really end up as much of a day off for Fr D as he stole ahead with newsletters for the next three weeks as far as he was able to. He also had a whole lot of paperwork to read for a meeting of the BOSCO Catholic Education Trust for a trustee’s meeting that he was attending later in the week (220 pages!). In the evening he was looking forward to dinner as he had found a rack of lamb that Waitrose had marked down (a particular favourite of Fr D’s).
Tuesday, after Morning Prayer, Mass and Exposition, Fr D tried to have some time with Sarah in the Parish Office to cover the period that he was going to be away on holiday. In the evening Fr D was meeting once again with the parents of this year’s First Reconciliation candidates. In the last session together they had looked at ‘Beginning the Journey of Faith at Baptism,’ this time they were considering ‘Knowing Jesus As A Friend.’ Having gone over the material with Fr and been able to ask questions they were then ready to talk about the subject and work with their children on the Saturday morning session. This is now the preferred method of catechesis for this age group in the diocese and enables the parents to ‘make good’ on the promises that they made at their child’s baptism to be “the first and best of teachers in the ways of faith.”
Wednesday was a very busy day: a requiem and cremation for a parishioner, a diocesan Parish Secretary’s Day in the Parish Centre (with Bishop Richard), and in the evening, the Induction of Fr Ruslan Kurdimov as the new Parish Priest of Walton.
On Thursday after Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D spent some time packing and getting things together for his holiday before driving down to Barnham (Chichester) in the afternoon for a meeting of the trustees of the BOSCO Catholic Education Trust. By the time he got back in the evening Fr D was shattered and took himself off to bed after a sandwich.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Friday Fr D started setting things out and in place in the church and Parish Office for the period that he was going to be away. In the afternoon his secretary from the Marriage Tribunal came up with some papers for him to sign in order to complete a case before he went off.
Saturday morning Fr D was meeting with both parents and candidates on this year’s First Reconciliation programme in the Parish Centre . . . . . .
