The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Things do not seem to have stopped this week around The Presbytery . . . .
Sadly we were still without heat in the church last weekend as we awaited the heating engineers and their search for spare parts for what is now a very old heating system. Fr D had managed to source a couple of high volume space heaters which managed to take the chill off the building and the weather was kind to us. During the week the engineers had two return trips to the church basement; one when they found that the part they had obtained was faulty and another where they fixed the system - we now have heating for the church once more!
Fr D had to have a twenty-four hour blood pressure monitor put on him during the week so had to appear at the Dr’s after Mass on both Wednesday and Thursday; he was very glad to get rid of it as it prevented him from sleeping properly on Wednesday night!
Bishop Richard has finally sent out this year’s Confirmation timetable for all the Deaneries in the Diocese, telling them where and when their celebrations will take place. The celebration for our prospective candidates will be taking place on the morning of Saturday 4th May at St Joseph's Church, Epsom.
This means that Fr D can now ask for any of our young people (not parents or grandparents) who are in Year 10 (and above) at Secondary School to come to the sacristy after Mass either this weekend (25/6 November) or next weekend (2/3 December) to collect an Application Booklet which they will need to complete and return to the Presbytery by Monday 4th December along with a personal letter to Fr D explaining why they would like to find out more about Confirmation (instructions in the Application). The Confirmation Application Booklet gives full details of the dates and timings of the course, with the Launch Evening for both Candidates and Parents being on Wednesday 6th December. Apologies for this being late and short notice but nothing could be done until we received the dates from Bishop Richard.
As always when we talk about receiving a sacrament of the Church it is very hard indeed to imagine that someone not already attending our weekend and Holy Day celebrations of Mass with the community could possibly be ready to celebrate the sacrament this year . . . .
