The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
An awful lot going on around The Presbytery this week . . . . .
After our Sunday morning Masses last weekend a parishioner from one of Fr D’s old parishes came to take him out for lunch and have a chat.
Having celebrated Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday Fr D set about a lot of reading for his role as a Trustee on the BOSCO Catholic Education Trust. Each year, at the beginning of the academic year, the government insists that all school governors and trustees of multi-academy trusts read the newest version of ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ which always has a few sections amended or added from the previous year. Combined with this document Fr D had to undergo an online Cyber Safety programme and more Child Protection seminars. Getting through these (and the online tests afterwards) took most of the rest of the day! In the evening he was with the parents of this year’s First Reconciliation/Eucharist candidates looking at the material they will be teaching their children this Saturday. This ‘parent-led’ catechesis enables the parents to ‘make-good’ on the promises they made when they had their children baptised - “to be the first and best of teachers to their child in the ways of faith.”
On Wednesday afternoon Fr D went off in the car to purchase the necessary items for the Harvest Thanksgiving Supper taking place on Friday (potatoes, baked beans, kidney beans, grated cheese, tuna and sweetcorn).
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Thursday Fr D was off down to the Tribunal Office in Crawley to work on another case that will soon be ready for judgement. He had to leave earlier than normal because he had a BOSCO Trustee meeting at one of the primary schools in West Sussex. He was pleased to hand in his ‘pass certificates’ for all the training that he did earlier in the week. He also discovered that there are now more than ten schools wanting to join the trust in 2024! When he got home in the evening he immediately started to finish the file for this week’s newsletter ready for Sarah to complete and print on Friday morning.
On Friday morning Fr D was giving the vegetarian chilli for the Harvest Thanksgiving Supper it’s second cooking session and meeting with the electrician to organise some works that need to be completed . . . .
