The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A little bit quieter this week around The Presbytery . . . . . .
After celebrating the Rite of Welcome for two families preparing for Baptism at the 09.00 Mass last Sunday Fr D was delighted to be able to celebrate the annual Blessing of Graves at Cobham Cemetery in the afternoon. The last time that he did this was two weeks after he arrived in the Parish two years ago (none last year because of ‘lock-down’). This time he was more prepared and all gathered in the new section car park for a prayer service before moving off to stand at the graves of their loved ones, acting as markers for Fr D to come around and bless the graves with Holy Water. The numbers attending were good and afterwards there were tea and scones back at the Parish Centre - it was not as cold outside as the first time Fr D celebrated it!
A further tweak to the sound on the LiveStream service took place after Mass on Tuesday to try and make the music more accessible; this is taking a while to resolve but is gradually improving - we wait to see what this weekend is like. At lunchtime Fr D was off to a pharmacy in Chessington to receive his booster jab - apart from a ‘warm’ arm he suffered no ill effects afterwards. In the evening he was again meeting with the parents of this year’s First Reconciliation candidates in St John’s Room in the Parish Centre. They are now more than halfway through the preparation programme. This time the parents were learning how to present the next section to their children on Saturday ‘Recognising When We Sin.’
On Wednesday after celebrating Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D rushed off to Epsom to attend the Requiem Mass for one of the sisters with whom he worked when he was in the parish nearly thirty years ago.
After Mass on Thursday Fr D went off to his office at the Tribunal to discover what had arrived in his ‘in tray,’ and had to look at a selection of building materials that are to be used at the re-modelled Philip Howard Centre in Crawley where all the diocesan offices will centre from next summer (carpet, external cladding, window blinds, desk chair colour, etc.). In the evening when he got home again he was picked up in order to attend the Epsom Catenian ‘Ladies and Clergy Night.’ It was good to see many of our own parishioners at the event - and some of the local clergy . . . . . . .
