The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A ‘bitty’ week around The Presbytery this week, as things appear to be getting back to something resembling normal . . . . . .
It was much to Fr D’s delight that he was able to attack with scissors all the ‘hazard’ tapes that have festooned the benches in the church for the past thirteen months. It was left to parishioners to manage their own social distancing in the seating last weekend - and they managed very well! The normal method of taking up the collection at Mass was also reintroduced and, for the month of August at least, there are not any planned Retiring Collections expected. Fr D is now looking forward to returning to two Masses on a Sunday (09.00 & 11.00) from this weekend (although he has noted that with half the seating available we were still able to celebrate just one Mass on a Sunday).
On Tuesday, after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D started work on the liturgy that will take place to mark the present church’s Diamond Jubilee in September. The date to keep in your diaries is Sunday 12th September (the actual date is the 13th). Bishop Richard will be coming to celebrate our 11.00 Mass and (Covid regulations willing) there will be a reception in the Parish Centre afterwards along with an historical video montage about the Parish and hopefully some music to span the 60 years. The reception is likely to be a ticket only event due to catering but more news and how to get tickets will be issued in due course.
During this week the ‘One Way’ signage for movement around the church has also gone - again, allowing parishioners to be sensible about their movements whilst at church. The four long benches that live in front of the front benches in the church were also ‘rescued’ from the glass chapel where they have been for thirteen months. Fr D is still awaiting clarification concerning the return (or not) of the two votive candle stands by the statues of Our Lady and St Joseph (although, as before, these can only be used during services when the church is occupied).
Fr D was not able to celebrate Mass in the Parish on Wednesday as he had a funeral he needed to attend in his old parish in Worthing. After the requiem he went across to Bishop’s House in Brighton to look at his ‘in-tray’ at the Tribunal - fortunately there was not much in there and he actually got home a little earlier in the evening that he normally would (the roads were also very good - with no schools in session) . . . . . .
