The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A really busy week around The Presbytery this time . . . . . . . .
After celebrating Advent Evening Prayer and Benediction last Sunday afternoon Fr D was delighted to attend an annual carol service, fundraising for children, at a parishioners’ home. There were many parishioners who had been invited as well as friends and family and also a handful of priests. Fr D was able to chauffer our sisters to the event.
Early on Monday morning the decorator arrived at The Presbytery to commence work in Fr D’s study. It has been many, many years since The Presbytery has been properly decorated and this was one of the items noted in the quinquennial survey that took place two years ago. The plan is to try to get one (or two) rooms or common areas decorated each year over the next few years to bring us ‘up to date.’ It was a good day for the decorator to start as Fr D was away for most of the day with his December Ministry to Priests Support Group.
After celebrating Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday, Fr D picked up Fr Tony Churchill and Fr John Horn before going to the De Verre hotel in East Horsley where all the priests from Surrey were meeting with Bishop Richard for him to talk to them about version three of the Diocesan Plan; the Bishop had had the same meeting at the Amex Stadium in Brighton for the Sussex clergy the day before. It was a very full day and Fr D was delighted to climb into his armchair after he had dropped off Frs Tony and John . The new version of the Plan will be available on the diocesan website from 2nd January and the Bishop is offering a webinar for parishioners to hear about the Plan on January 10th .
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday Fr D continued work for our Christmas liturgies before, in the evening, meeting with this year’s Confirmation Candidates for their first session of the preparation course. This year we have four young people who are looking at the Sacrament, which will be celebrated on Saturday May 4th, with Bishop Richard, at St Joseph’s, Epsom.
On Thursday after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D was down in Crawley finishing off his latest Sentence for a case he judged last Friday. From Crawley Fr D had to travel to Shoreham-bySea for a meeting of the Trustees of the BOSCO Catholic Education Trust (the last for this year) and then on to Effingham where parishioners from both Cobham and Effingham were celebrating the Adult Advent Reconciliation Service . . . .
