The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Quite a busy one this week as Fr D catches up from a week at the Annual Canon Law Conference in Galway . . . . .
Fr D had a quiet day at home on the Coronation Bank Holiday which was also his thirty-fifth anniversary of ordination - it seems hard to believe that it has been that long and has been wonderful, so far anyway!
Awaiting Fr D when he got home was a letter from Bishop Richard to say that he had made the decision to ‘Call’ one of our parishioners, Paul Fisher, to the Permanent Diaconate. Paul has undertaken three years of study in order to reach this stage but things are never certain until the bishop issues the ‘Call’ of the Church! Paul will now be ordained here in the Sacred Heart on Thursday 29th June, the Solemnity of St Peter & St Paul, at our evening Mass. Paul and Fr D will be planning the liturgy for the evening over the next few weeks.
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday morning Fr D jumped in the car and shot off to St Anne’s Banstead for the monthly Deanery Clergy Meeting. The agenda this time was quite exhausting, so by the time that 13.00 came around and it was time for the lunch Fr D was desperate to eat! In the evening Fr D was meeting once more with the parents of this years First Eucharist candidates where they were looking closely at the Eucharistic Prayer part of the Mass (ready to teach their children on Saturday morning).
On Wednesday Fr D celebrated Morning Prayer, Mass and a decade of the Rosary (for the month of May) before he was chasing up some phone calls, emails, and post that had accrued whilst he was away.
Once again on Thursday Fr D celebrated Morning Prayer, Mass, and a decade of the Rosary before going down to the Diocesan Offices in Crawley to continue his work on cases at the Marriage Tribunal. In the evening he met with a set of parents who will be having their child baptised at the Sacred Heart next Sunday (21st) as they completed their preparation course.
Friday after Morning Prayer, Mass, and a decade of the Rosary, Fr D again jumped into the car and was off up to Notre Dame School where he was celebrating the Feast Day of their founder St Jeanne along with Bishop Richard. In the afternoon Fr D was having the first of several meetings with our new ‘deacon designate’ to prepare the forthcoming ordination . . . . .
