The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . . A much busier week around The Presbytery this week . . . . . On Monday Fr D took some time out of his ‘day off’ in order to meet with the electrician the Parish uses to look at several aspects of the security lighting around the church and Parish Centre. It has been bothering Fr D for several months that the two floodlights on the front of the Parish Centre seem to be permanently on. Originally he thought that there was a switch somewhere that had not been turned to the correct setting but he was unable to locate one. He has now asked the electrician to look at the situation - fortunately the floodlights are of the LED type and so cost ‘pennies’ a year to run; but it would be good to only have them on when they need to be! The outside lights in the roof just outside the disabled entrance to the Parish Centre do not appear to come on at all. Fr D thought that they must be movement activated but having had several meetings in the Parish Centre in the evening during the autumn and winter so far he has never seen them come on. Then he thought that they might only be emergency lights, coming on when power was cut; he has asked the electrician to check on these and to make at least one of the units work with a proximity sensor with a manual override switch! The bulkhead lights on the wall down the side of the church do not seem to have been working for a couple of months, this could be because the bulbs have failed and Fr D has again asked the electrician to troubleshoot these. He also asked that the present sodium bulbs (very energy hungry) be changed to the LED type to save on costs! Finally the floodlight in the low wall facing the church front door has to be turned on manually at present with a switch hidden away in the electricity meter cupboard. Fr D has asked the electrician to investigate placing a timer/dusk to dawn sensor in this circuit as well as changing the present sodium bulb to an LED type! The electrician will be getting back to Fr D with an estimate for the works that might be necessary soon. Other events during the week were a ‘Zoom’ Deanery Clergy Meeting on Tuesday morning; a Bosco Education Trust trustees meeting on Wednesday afternoon; the stripping out of the guest bathroom by the builders on Thursday ready for the new bathroom to be fitted next weekend; and on Friday morning the delivery of all the new bathroom furniture. This weekend’s Masses will include a Pastoral Letter from Bishop Richard concerning our Diocesan-wide Retreat ‘INVITE’ and also a Retiring Collection for the diocesan Lourdes Fund . . . . .
