The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A slightly slower pace of life around The Presbytery this week as we march well into the summer holiday period . . . . .
After the Masses on Sunday morning Fr D had a parishioner from a previous parish visiting and taking him out to lunch. She brought news of who was sick and who has passed on over recent months, many of whom Fr D remembered - even after all those years!
After celebrating Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday morning Fr D was off in the car down to the diocesan offices once more to wear his ‘other hat’ as one of the diocese’ Canon Lawyers. Unfortunately when he arrived he discovered that his secretary was not in as she was unwell; this did mean that he was able to concentrate on a new case which is ready for the judgement stage. He has two cases completely ready for judgement now but, with the summer holiday months, is finding it difficult to get together with the two other judges involved to render judgement. He is hoping to get these and two more cases completed before he goes off on holiday in October. He left Crawley slightly earlier than usual to be ready for a telephone interview that he was involved in the late afternoon.
Just before he went through to the church on Wednesday morning Fr D saw the tree man arrive to deal with two trees that are likely to cause problems with the Parish Centre roof unless they are dealt with. Both are now scraping the roof tiles on two corners of the hall which will eventually lead to scarification and damage. Since they are self-sown and not of much utility Fr D decided to have them taken down (- in fact one of them had roots very close to the foundations of the building and Fr D couldn’t understand how the builders had not taken the tree away as part of the building works?). After celebrating Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D was working on the newsletter (trying to get things done to accommodate Sarah’s summer holiday timetable).
Again after Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D was off to Crawley to continue getting cases ready for judgement, hopefully in September. He also had a series of questions that had come in by email and telephone during the earlier part of the week to resolve. On the way back from the Tribunal Fr D stopped off at the big Gatwick Tesco to do a ‘big shop’ which should see him through for the next three weeks. In the evening he put the finishing touches to a funeral he’s involved in next week . . .
