The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A slightly less busy week this time, around The Presbytery.
Last Saturday Fr D met with candidates and their parents for the next module of the First Eucharist course - ‘The Liturgy of the Word.’ In this the children looked at the readings, homily, and Universal Prayers that form part of the Sunday Mass. When Fr D had met with the parents on their own the Tuesday before he had recommended a children’s missal for Mass which was very child-friendly and all the parents decided to buy one for their child. Fr D was greatly impressed on Sunday morning at the 09.00 Mass to see all of the children using their new missal to follow what was happening at Mass. At the end of the Mass the children were all presented with their own copy of the Gospel of Luke (being used at Mass this year), a gift from the Parish.
On Monday (usually Fr D’s day off) Fr D had to make a trip into the Registry Office in Weybridge to hand in the state marriage registers. Last May the system for registering marriages in England and Wales changed quite substantially and now the Parish does not have to fill in any state marriage registers, just a schedule on the day. Couples no longer get their marriage certificate on the day but have to apply for one from the Register Office (a minimum of two weeks after the schedule is returned to the Register Office after the marriage ceremony). This means that Fr D never has to write a marriage certificate ever again, which he is delighted about (too much to get wrong!).
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday much of Fr D’s time was spent in setting up for the ‘Pancakes & QuizNight’ taking place in the evening. All those who attended the evening were in good spirits and were not hopeless at answering the questions (- this time on the Catholic Faith). The pancakes were served up with a variety of fillings: traditional lemon juice & sugar, strawberry sauce, lemon sauce, maple syrup, and vanilla ice cream.
Both of our Masses for Ash Wednesday were very well attended (better than on a Holy Day?) and ashes were distributed in traditional fashion once more (a cross on the forehead). Late on Thursday afternoon Fr D was scheduled to join in a ‘Teams’ meeting along with the rest of the Bosco Catholic Education Trust trustees to ratify the choice of new head for one of the schools in the trust; however, when he attempted to join the meeting a message flashed up to say that the meeting had been cancelled . . . . . . .
