The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Things around The Presbytery have begun to heat up as we get ever closer to Holy Week . . .
Having celebrated Morning Prayer, Mass and Exposition on Tuesday morning Fr D started work on the Triduum booklet for our Holy Week services this year. He was out to lunch with a friend before returning and carrying on where he left off. In the evening he was reading up on all the materials for a meeting of the BOSCO Catholic Education Trust he was attending on Thursday afternoon - 197 pages!
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday Fr D picked up where he left off the evening before with the papers for the Education Trust meeting, finally finishing them just before lunch. In the afternoon he was trying to get a couple of his Holy Week homilies completed but kept being interrupted by the door or the telephone, so didn’t get too far with them. In the evening he was meeting with this year’s Confirmation candidates from the Parish, taking them through the various services of Holy Week and pointing out how they fitted together as one big celebration of the Faith. He was also able to get most of them to volunteer to be disciples in the foot washing at the Holy Thursday Mass (we still need more volunteers from amongst parishioners for this important task). By the time he took himself off to bed in the evening he wasn’t even interested in looking at the book he’s presently reading!
Having not gone down to Bishop’s House on Wednesday Fr D was planning to go down on Thursday after Morning Prayer and Mass (going to his Education Trust meeting on the way back home in the afternoon). However, whilst he was celebrating Mass his secretary emailed the Parish Office to say that she was unwell and would not be in so Fr D ended up with a morning he was not expecting and started on his Holy Week homilies once more. After lunch he set off to the Secondary School at Burgess Hill to attend the Education Trust meeting at one of the newest schools to join the Trust. It was a pleasant change to be able to drive back home from the meeting in daylight. In the evening he set about sorting the newsletter for the weekend.
On Friday, after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D continued with the newsletter and had it all complete before going into the church for Morning Prayer and Mass. When he came back in afterwards he prepared some bits and pieces for a family who are trying to organising a memorial Mass for their parents this coming May . . . . .
