The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
On Monday Fr D took a long walk through Pains Hill Park, even having a sit down in the sunshine (although he was checking how much electricity was being made through the new solar panels on one of his phone apps!).
After celebrating Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Tuesday Morning Fr D shot off to attend the monthly Clergy Deanery Meeting, this time taking place at Redhill. There was quite a lot on this month’s agenda to be discussed, along with some questions to be answered. By the time that the discussions had finished Fr D was more than ready for lunch, prepared by some ladies from Redhill Parish, which was delicious, and filled him up before he set off home again.
When he arrived home from the Deanery Meeting Fr D took the opportunity to chase up some of the paperwork that he was expecting from the company that fitted the solar panels recently. Having kept his eye on the amount of electricity being made each day he was concerned that when the house was not using a lot and the storage batteries had been filled, the system was sending any over production to the National Grid. At present we have not got a contract with an electricity supplier to buy this electricity because to sign up we have to have certain key certificates - so Fr D was definitely ‘on a mission.’
On Wednesday morning, before he celebrated Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D found that he had already received and answer to his email which had attached the certificates that he was looking for. This meant that he was able to begin the process of setting up a contract with Octopus Energy to buy any excess energy that our solar panels produce. This might take anything up to two months to get organised but should be in place before the really sunny months arrive to maximise income. In time, once the solar panels built in to the Parish Centre Roof have their certificates too, we will obtain another contract with Octopus to take any excess from them. This should all have been done when the Centre was finished but, for whatever reason was not!
On Friday morning Fr D came in from celebrating Morning Prayer and Mass to discover another set of certificates from the company that fitted the Air Source Heat Pump. This means that he can now apply for the government grant that should pay the Parish £10,000 over the first seven years of the pumps use, provided Fr D is able to get it all sorted by 31st March!
