The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A wide variety of items were filling Fr D’s waking hours throughout this week . . .
Over the past couple of weeks, after copious amounts of research two rather irritating and distressing things have become apparent concerning the solar panels that were installed on the Parish Centre roof at it’s construction. Firstly, the power inverter has failed (it is thought a year ago), so it has not been delivering any power to the Parish Centre throughout that time. When it was fitted there should have been a WiFi connection with the Parish computer so that it could automatically inform of any issues it was having - for some, as yet, unexplained reason this does not appear to have been done. Fr D and Sarah are in the process of getting quotes for a replacement inverter and its fitting, it will then definitely be attached to the WiFi network! Secondly, once the solar panels had been fitted (along with the certification) the Parish should have entered into an agreement with the government for a FIT (feed in tariff) to purchase the generated electricity that we ourselves did not use (at the time this would have been for 45 pence per unit (locked-in for a period of 25 years), this was later reduced to 14 pence per unit before the government itself dropped the scheme but made the electricity companies take it on themselves (presently the best offering now is about 5 pence per unit). Again for some, as yet, unexplained reason this too was not done and a substantial sum of money has not been claimed as a result. Disappointing as this is once the inverter is replaced and we are generating electricity once more we will sign-up for the best offering that one of the generating companies offers us and will start raising money as originally planned. Fr D was really upset and disappointed when he discovered all of this, but it has happened and we just need to move on.
Completely unconnected with the above some weeks ago both the local and county councils got in touch with all householders in the borough to offer a government scheme to supply solar panels to help reduce climate change in the long term. There was no obligation for finding out so Fr D applied for The Presbytery. On discussion with the ‘property man’ at Bishop’s House Fr D discovered that the government had given councils a large amount of money on a ‘use it or lose it’ basis for running such a scheme. Fr D has now received a preliminary quotation for panels to be placed on the garden-facing roof space and has taken part in a webinar with the councils and contractors explaining things in more detail. As a result he is considering signing up for the panels to be fitted which would take place by January.
