Church Mouse Update 7th January 2024
The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Lots happening around the Parish this week . . . . .
On Tuesday, after celebrating Mass and Exposition, Fr D was back in the house as the workers moved all the remaining furniture out of Fr D’s study, lightly sanded the parquet flooring, before putting on a sealing coat and a hardwearing top coat of non-slip polish. Once the second coat was down the room was closed and left overnight for the polish to set.
On Wednesday, after Mass, Fr D was celebrating a Mass at Notre Dame School for the staff. When he came back to the house the workers were bringing back all of the heavy furniture into the study (so that the newly polished floor did not suffer from any scrapes or scratches). Fr D was not able to unpack the books that have been in boxes since before he went on holiday in October because the bookcase positions could not be finalised unto a new electrical extension with USB sockets (due on Thursday) arrived. All that remains in the way of ‘works’ to complete the decorations is an ‘acid bath’ for the brickwork of the fireplace, a couple of new safety glass shelves for the alcoves, and the replacement of the temporary plastic electrical face plates with the new brass fronted ones. In the evening Fr D met with this year’s Confirmation Candidates for their next session, looking at the sacrament.
On Thursday, after Mass, Fr D was back at Notre Dame School to celebrate Mass for the senior school pupils as all the students came back for the Spring Term. When he got back to the house Fr D was able to set up his computer again and start work on this week’s newsletter. He was hoping to set up his new replacement mini-computer (the desk top is nearing the end of it’s useful life and is causing many issues), but he is going to in a good period of time to get this done, so has left it for the moment. In the evening Fr D was with three families starting their preparation for the baptisms of their infants.
Friday after Mass, Fr D continued work on this week’s newsletter. Later, he was out to see someone in a local nursing home who needed the Sacrament of the Sick.
This weekend Parishioners will receive copies of Bishop Richard’s Diocesan Pastoral Plan for the future shape of Parishes in the years ahead. For us this will be enacted in September (2024). The plan is far reaching and no Parish in the Diocese will be unaffected. Please do make a point of taking home with you a copy of the Plan and also to log-on on Wednesday 10 th January at 19.30 https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86457734895 [Please note that there is no need to register for this webinar].
