The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Lots happening in and around The Presbytery this week, with Fr D doing a lot of dashing about . . . . .
Late Sunday afternoon Fr D was sorting through lots of paperwork which he had accumulated since he’s been in Cobham. Everything is out of his study whilst builders and electricians get it ready to be decorated towards the end of November. The study is the first room to be properly decorated and will be followed by a room each year until they are all completed (which might be a bit like painting the Forth Road Bridge). The electrician has discovered that there must be a connection issue under the lounge floor as the lighting circuit in the study below is, at best, intermittent - this will necessitate rolling back the carpet in the lounge to get to the junction box below the floorboards!
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday Fr D returned to sorting through piles of paperwork, binning as much as possible. He is hoping that this will mean that there is as little as possible in the way of paperwork going back into the study when he moves back in. In the evening Fr D was meeting with the parents of this year First Reconciliation candidates preparing them for the next ‘family session’ on Saturday - ‘Session IV.’
Wednesday was, of course, ‘All Saints Day’ a Holy Day of Obligation. Fr D celebrated Mass in the Sacred Heart at 09.30 and 19.30. In the afternoon he was still chasing the diocesan property man to get more information regarding our roof and high-level maintenance works. He also had the bit between his teeth about our electricity invoices not being correct (charging the full 20% rate of VAT when we should only be charged 5%) and wondering when the move to a new provider has got to (put into action in July!)?
Early on Thursday morning Fr D received a text telling him not to try and get in to the diocesan offices in Crawley because of the weather (not an issue in Cobham)! This was a problem because he had some marriage papers for a young couple getting married in Ireland that he was going to take down with him. In the evening Fr D was meeting with a young couple who are preparing to have their infant baptised on the Feast of Christ the King. They will be the first family to take part in the new Baptism Programme that Fr D spent a lot of time writing over the summer months . . . . . . . .
