The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A lot less busy around The Presbytery this week after all the excitement of Christmas Bazaar preparations last week . . . . .
Last Saturday was, of course, the occasion of our annual Parish Christmas Bazaar. The day was very enjoyable for all those who took part, even given a lighter ‘footfall’ than in previous years. Despite Fr D being worried about whether there would be enough stock for the various stalls early in the week it was there at the end!
On Sunday afternoon there was a celebration of Advent Evening Prayer & Benediction at 15.30; these celebrations will take place on each of the Sundays of Advent - a chance to leave behind for an hour the hustle and bustle of the pre-Christmas preparations at home to spend some time in quality prayer with the Lord.
On Tuesday, after Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition, Fr D started work on the two Advent Reconciliation Services that are taking place during this season. The Children’s Service (at which those on this year’s Reconciliation Programme will celebrate the Lord’s forgiveness for the first time), taking place on Saturday 3rd December; and the Adult’s Service, taking place on Friday 16th December at 19.30. Fr D has arranged for three visiting priests to be present at the Adult Service and hopes that they will not be sitting ‘twiddling their thumbs’ on the evening and that parishioners will make good use of the opportunity to celebrate the Lord’s forgiveness as they prepare for Christmas. In the evening Fr D met with the parents of those celebrating their First Reconciliation for the last time; bringing together the past three months of preparation ready for Saturday. In the New Year they will change to getting ready for their children’s First Eucharist on 25th June.
As his secretary was on holiday this week Fr D did not disappear down to the Diocesan Office in Crawley this week. This gave him extra time to complete the Advent Reconciliation Services and draw up the sign-up list for Readers and Servers over Christmas. If you are a reader or a server please make sure to look at this over this weekend (at the back of church) and enter your name if you are able to help. (it would be good to get this completed this weekend!).
Also this week Fr D thinks that he has finally got to the stage where we can start selling our surplus electricity from the Presbytery system to the grid (not that there is as much of this as during the summer months now) . . . . . .
