The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Obviously it is quiet around The Presbytery whilst Fr D is on his holidays this week . . . . .
Straight after he had celebrated the evening Mass last Saturday Fr D took off in his car to his friends at Dartford where he had dinner and stayed overnight before getting up really early and arriving at Gatwick airport for 05.00. Fr D was more nervous than normal - hoping that he had understood all the extra COVID test bits and pieces. By tradition once they had gone through to ‘airside’ Fr D was buying breakfast for his friends, always substantial because they wouldn’t be eating again until the evening.
The group always tries to book a year in advance so that they can get exactly the right sort of villa and pool. They like the villa to be away from any built-up areas and Fr D likes to have steps not a ladder into the pool - he finds this easier with his back. It also always has to have air-conditioning, so that Fr D can run inside when it gets to be too hot and sit reading underneath it.
During the week they venture out in the hire car occasionally to see interesting sites and to explore the island; this being their first time to Lefkas would be a learning experience, going out to various villages, towns and buildings. On the days that they do not travel out and about they spend their day at the villa, by the pool or in the gardens. Fr D takes lots of books on his ipad to read and quite a few films as well. Normally at lunchtime they get rolls from a local bakery to eat along with cheese, tomatoes, and olive paste. Then, in the evening, they go out to one of the local restaurants to have dinner. Over the course of their time away they go to different restaurants and then, towards the end of the holiday, they start to re-visit their favourite ones again. Having dinner out is one of Fr D’s favourite parts of the holiday, apart from the friends that he goes with . . . . . . .
