The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
After all the traditional excitement of the Christmas festivities and celebrating seven Masses over the Christmas weekend Fr D has had a more relaxed week whilst trying to recover from a bad cough that developed over Christmas.
Our Christmas services were well attended and Fr D was very pleased with the way that they were both prayerful and a symbol of what they represent - the celebration of God’s gift of his incarnate son to mankind.
Just before Christmas the decorations of Fr D’s study were completed and it now looks very good. Now the parquet flooring will be sanded, resealed, and polished before the bookshelves are brought back in and fastened to the walls. The renovations will then be complete and Fr D can move all his books and files back in. He’ll be looking at some ‘thinning-out’ of the books as he does this (there always seem to be more books joining the collection than books leaving!). As we move forward with the redecoration of The Presbytery Fr D hopes that we’ll manage one major room and one minor room each year; establishing a recurring programme over about ten years.
In the second week of Advent our First Reconciliation candidates this year completed their course of preparation and celebrated God’s forgiveness for the first time. In the New Year they will commence their preparations for First Eucharist which in 2024 will be taking place on Sunday 16th June. Before then the children will be looking at the Eucharist through the lens of our Sunday Mass in ‘bite size’ pieces. Our Confirmation Candidates have begun looking at the Sacrament of Confirmation to assess whether or not they feel that they want to commit themselves to the course of preparation which will culminate in receiving the sacrament from Bishop Richard on Saturday 4th May. Much to Fr D’s delight all candidates and their families for the sacraments are known to him and are regular members of our worshipping community.
The coming year is going to be a time of change for our diocese as Bishop Richard’s Pastoral Plan will be gradually brought into being. Parishioners are urged to use all the opportunities that will be presented to acquaint themselves with the Plan - pew synopsis’, diocesan website information page (from 2nd January), and a webcast with the Bishop on 10th January.
Many thanks for all the cards, presents, and good wishes that have come Fr D’s way over the past week, he is very grateful indeed . . . . . .
Have a happy and blessed New Year!
