The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A slightly busier week around The Presbytery as Fr D prepared for a Canon Law Conference in Ireland this week . . . .
Last Saturday morning Fr D was delighted to be at Arundel for the Confirmation celebration for most of our candidates this year. Bishop Richard spoke to them in the homily about the cathedral celebrating 100 years this year and St Philip Howard coming back to the Faith and holding fast to it even through the privations of the Tower of London before he died. We have one more candidate who will celebrate on May 21st with other candidates from the deanery.
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday Fr D started work on two weeks worth of newsletters due to his Canon Law Conference in Ireland. The Conference takes place every year (usually in the first couple of weeks in May) and moves around various venues to reflect the ‘home countries’ of the Canon Law Society - England (usually Harrogate), Scotland (varies), Ireland (Galway), and Rome (occasionally).
On Wednesday, having celebrated Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D was off down to the diocesan offices at Crawley to see what might have built up in his ‘in-tray’ since the last time he was in before Easter. Fortunately not too much had accumulated and he was able to respond to the Safeguarding Office request to begin renewing his DBS Certificate (done every three years). He completed the relevant forms and then completed the online part when he arrived home in the evening; all he has to do now is take in some identity documents when he goes back to the office in two weeks time.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Thursday Fr D had an appointment with the audiologist for the fitting of hearing aids - he’s been struggling for a few years and decided to have a proper test which revealed that he should have had them three years ago! They are making a big difference from the outset. In the evening he was meeting with our newly confirmed young people, continuing the Confirmation Programme (the Bishop bought forward Confirmation Day when the Coronation date was announced!).
On Friday, after celebrating Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D finished off the two newsletters that he had started earlier in the week. He was also hoping to have contact from the diocesan property specialist concerning roofing work on the church that was indicated by the last quinquennial inspection . . . . .
