The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A fairly busy week around The Presbytery as Fr D, with others, started to remove some of the measures put into place for protection against the Covid virus . . . .
Fr D was really pleased to go around the church on Monday, cutting the hazard tape that has cut-off half of the seating in the church for much of the past year. He had previously planned for this back in June before the government changed their minds and delayed things for another month. He was heard to say that “taking the scissors to the tapes” was a very cathartic exercise. The green ticks, marking safe seating, were also removed from the benches as the week went on - another enjoyable exercise.
At Mass on Tuesday Fr D was delighted that he didn’t have to remember how to celebrate Mass and keep the reception of Holy Communion to the very end and was able to ‘get back to normal.’ This also meant, of course, that parishioners were able to return to their seats after communion to say their prayers of thanksgiving. Of course some things have not yet changed (at least as far as inside the church is concerned) and elsewhere in the newsletter the new reduced regulations are enunciated. Fr D hopes that over time these too will not be required. It would appear that the emphasis now is about relying on people being ‘sensible’ about their interactions whilst at church. In the afternoon the friend that Fr D goes on holiday with came for a late lunch, a chance to catch up, and to talk about this year’s holiday arrangements at the end of September.
On Wednesday after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D was off down to the Tribunal Office in Brighton where he discovered that some preliminary dates have been set for moving all the offices at Bishop’s House up to the St Philip Howard Centre in Crawley. His office is expected to move in the first part of 2022. This is part of a rationalisation plan being put into place across the diocese.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Thursday Fr D was finalising some of the new instructions concerning Covid from the diocese and how they would be implemented in the Parish over the next few months. He is just hoping that there will not be the need to re-introduce any of the old ones over the autumn and winter, so that people can settle down to some sense of normality as far as possible . . . . . . .
