The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A real ‘All hands to the pump’ week around The Presbytery this time around as lots of planning begins to bear fruit around the Parish . . . . . .
Fr D was very, very pleased with the parishioner turn out for the Advent Adult Reconciliation Service on Friday evening; and was delighted that all four priests were kept suitably occupied (which means that he shouldn’t have too much trouble when inviting them back in the future)!
On Sunday afternoon we celebrated the fourth and final Advent Evening Prayer and Benediction service for Advent - a welcome opportunity to ‘step-out’ from all the ‘buzz’ of secular and Christmas preparations to spend a little time in prayer before the Lord. Later in the early evening our Annual Parish Carol Service was well attended - a chance to listen to favourite scripture readings and join in singing some Christmas Carols; afterwards a Parish Social took place in the Parish Centre with mulled wine and mince pies available.
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday Morning Fr D received an email to tell him that the Parish Diocesan Directories were in the entrance foyer of the Priest’s House in Oxted. He took off in the car to Oxted to collect these only to find that there was no sign of them. After going to Redhill and some telephone calls it was discovered that they had been taken from the foyer and placed in the narthex of the church which was not accessible but a parishioner would come and open up. Fr D retraced his route to Oxted picked up all of the Deanery stocks and took them to Redhill where they were divided East/West of the Deanery and Fr D brought back to Cobham with all of the Western parishes’ allotment; arranging that parishes came to the Parish Office to collect them. By the end of all this Fr D had clocked up 70 miles!
On Wednesday after Mass the church floor was given a light polish to further protect it from the elements (being brought in on people’s feet). Fr D was out for lunch with one of the retired priests of the diocese - a last chance before Christmas hit! Thursday and Friday Fr D spent finalising his homilies and the intercessions over Christmas and New Year; then he thought about putting his tree and lights up . . . . .
