The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A relatively slow week round and about The Presbytery this time as Fr D recovered from his trip to Lourdes with the sick children and set about tidying things away from all the Easter ceremonies and festivities . . . . . .
At our 11.00 Parish Mass on Sunday Fr D was delighted to celebrate a Lucenarium (Service of Light) with those young people from the Parish who are being Confirmed by Bishop Richard at Arundel Cathedral this weekend. Originally the Confirmation Mass was not going to take place until the beginning of May but then the king’s coronation was announced which meant that the Mass had to be moved. During the Lucenarium the parents of the candidates lit their youngster’s baptismal candle (first given to them at the child’s baptism) and then formally handed it over to their child as a sign that they were now responsible for the development and protection of their own faith (although Fr D is sure that they will still be available to help whenever necessary)!
Unusually, on Monday, Fr D celebrated Mass for the staff at Notre Dame School as they began the new Summer Term.
Having celebrated Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday morning Fr D went back to Notre Dame School to celebrate Mass for the senior school pupils on their first day back. When he returned home he set about dealing with the post that had accumulated whilst he was in Lourdes and getting ready to meet with the Parish Finance Committee members in the evening. Having celebrated Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday morning Fr D just had time for a cup of tea before getting ready for and celebrating a Requiem Mass and then going off to Woking Crematorium (new venue Fr D hasn’t been to in over twenty years!).
Not going off to the Diocesan Offices in Crawley this week due to major drainage works taking place for a second week Fr D celebrated Morning Prayer and Mass on Thursday and then was chasing up a few items brought up in Tuesday’s Finance Committee Meeting as well as chasing some workers about items still to be completed/begun. In the evening Fr D met with a young family attending the Infant Baptism Preparation Course; they will celebrate the Rite of Welcome at Mass next weekend and should be celebrating the baptism of their daughter in the middle of May, after completing the Preparation Course.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Friday Fr D got things ready for the weekend Mass schedule and for the Confirmation Mass on Saturday morning . . . .
