The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A slightly less busy week around The Presbytery this time around . . . . .
Having celebrated Morning Prayer and Mass on Tuesday morning Fr D left the Blessed Sacrament exposed on the altar to give parishioners the opportunity for private prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. This has been taking place most Tuesdays since we have been allowed by the Covid regulations to do so. It is a devotional practice that is highly recommended by the Church throughout all established parishes in the world. Bishop Richard has suggested that the time could be used to pray (individually) for more vocations to the diocesan priesthood here in Arundel & Brighton. Whenever possible we will continue to have this time of prayer after Mass on a Tuesday.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday Fr D was, once more, in his car on the way to Bishop’s House, Hove, wearing his ‘other hat’ at the Marriage Tribunal. There was quote a lot waiting for him in his ‘in-tray’ as individuals and parishes begin to come out of a ‘lock-down mentality’ and think about regularising difficult marriage situations. As he got back home in the late afternoon there was a message waiting for him from one of the local undertakers about a requiem at the beginning of September. He is still waiting to hear about two other funerals of parishioners that he knows should be on the way.
Having finished Morning Prayer and Mass on Thursday morning Fr D discovered that one of the funerals he was waiting to hear about was not, in the end, going to involve the Parish. In fact the parishioner concerned was not going to be getting a requiem Mass at all. Fr D was disappointed by this and would recommend that all parishioners make known to their relatives/ legal representative their wishes concerning their funerals. In the Catholic Church this would normally involve a requiem Mass being celebrated in the church followed by either burial or cremation. Making your wishes known to your nearest will help them immensely when the time comes because they will not have to worry about what you wanted - they will know. Perhaps later, in the Autumn Fr D will try and produce a brochure that parishioners can complete outlining their wishes which they can then make copies of for their relatives/legal representatives, leaving no doubt as to what needs to be done.
At the weekend Fr D was looking forward to meeting up with a friend from his first parish whom he had not seen since lock-down began . . . . . .
