The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Things are really ‘back up to speed’ in the Parish now: schools back, our various sacramental programmes resuming, and Bishop Richard unveiling the New Diocesan Pastoral Plan, after the Christmas break . . . . . .
Last Sunday saw two sacramental Enrolment Rites: at the 09.00 Mass our Confirmation Candidates were formally accepted onto their programme of preparation, leading to a celebration of the sacrament with Bishop Richard on May 4th this year; and at the 11.00 Mass our First Eucharist Candidates and their parents were accepted onto our Parish First Eucharist Programme. Together with three young families who are at present preparing for Infant Baptism these events are an affirmation that our Catholic Faith is alive and well in Cobham!
On Tuesday, having celebrated Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition, Fr D was meeting with a parishioner in the Parish Centre. Afterwards he spent some time preparing some of his weekday homilies for the next few weeks. In the afternoon he was chasing the diocese to see where the proposed roof work project that the Parish is wishing to undertake was?
Wednesday, after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D placed the necessary orders for what we will need to celebrate Lent and Easter this year (paschal candle, wax motif, coloured candles for our Lenten ladder, palm leaves etc.); because Easter is relatively early this year these things have to be completed earlier as well. Fr D didn’t go down to the Tribunal Office in Crawley as he wanted to catch up on a few other things as well.
Thursday, Fr D was up early to make a start on the newsletter before celebrating Morning Prayer and Mass. Afterwards he was off down to Crawley to see what his ‘in-tray’ had in it and to start some new courts for those who have recently submitted requests for an investigation into the validity of their former marriages. Arriving back home in the late afternoon he continued with work on this weekend’s newsletter and dealt with some emails that arrived during the day.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Friday, Fr D was meeting with a lady who has been attending Mass for some while and who is interested in becoming a Catholic along with her two children. As the two children are of school age they cannot be baptised in the way that infants are and so a period of catechesis will need to be arranged before they can be baptised (their mother will need preparation before being Received) . . . .
