The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Fr D has been a bit of a blur this week as he has been dashing around getting things ready for the Confirmation Programme, Advent, and the Bazaar . . . .
On Monday Fr D’s Ministry to Priests Support Group should have been meeting here at the Sacred Heart but one of the members has “done his ankle in” and was unable to make it, so it was decided that Fr D would swop with him and host the December meeting instead. As usual the priests met at midday in the parish church for an hour before the Blessed Sacrament before moving into the Priest’s House to celebrate the Office; after this they went to a local hostelry for lunch before returning and having their usual review of life over the past month. In the evening Fr D returned home and began work on what he wanted to say to the parents and prospective candidates for this year’s Confirmation Programme.
After Celebrating Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament Fr D was occupied with an IT engineer who was looking at the issues that we have had with maintaining a strong signal to our ‘Donor’ machine in the church. It had been working quite happily from its arrival until sometime when Fr D was on holiday since when it has been occasionally saying that it hasn’t got a signal (although the signal is actually very strong when Fr D checks). The engineer suggests that we need another ‘box of tricks’ to ensure the coverage of the signal and Fr D is now awaiting a quotation! In the evening Fr D had two meetings: one with a young man thinking about becoming a Roman Catholic, and one with the parents of this year’s First Eucharist candidates looking at the materials that will be discussed on Saturday with the children.
On Wednesday, after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D did not go off to the Diocesan Offices as normal as he’d received an email to say that his secretary was not feeling well and would not be coming in. This was a bit of a ‘blessing in disguise’ as Fr D did have a lot to get ready anyway; including a new timetable for the Confirmation Programme because the bishop had changed the date of Confirmation by almost a month and a half.
Fr D was not at the Diocesan Offices on Thursday either as his secretary was still not able to come in. This gave Fr D time to continue chasing various people to begin selling our excess production of electricity from the solar panels to the national grid. In the evening he met with the candidates and parents for this year’s Confirmation; we have six young people who are embarking on the journey this year with a new date of 22nd April!
