The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Fr D has been taking time to rest after all the extra bits and pieces that Christmas involves; his back is causing him some pain at the moment, causing him to limp a little and have difficulty getting out of chairs (maybe because he is too tired?).
Fr D was very pleased with the way that the various services over Christmas were celebrated and was a little surprised at the much higher numbers attending than a year ago (perhaps people have decided to stop hiding under their duvets for fear of something happening!). Life, however, goes on and we must face it and move on in our journey through life with the Lord always at our side. The bishops of our country have stated for some months now that a return to normal practice is now required by all Catholics and that staying away from Mass (unless actually ill) is not any kind of solution to our problems. As we begin our New Year, when it is traditional to decide upon ‘New Year Resolutions,’ perhaps we could make a ‘full return’ to our Faith our ‘first’ and ‘main’ resolution this time around.
After the last celebration of Mass on Christmas Day was completed Fr D set up the church for the Mass on St Stephen’s Day and locked the building up. He was then able to enjoy his Christmas Dinner with the sisters next door, watch the King’s speech with them, and return home to his armchair after a final cup of tea.
On St Stephen’s Day (Monday) unusually Fr D was celebrating Mass during which he was able to enrol one of our regular altar servers in the St Stephen’s Guild of Altar Servers, presenting him with his medal of membership at the same time.
After celebrating Mass on Tuesday Fr D was working on this weekend’s newsletter and on the planning of a requiem that is coming up. He was also able to start some ‘forward planning’ of the next few newsletters and the accompanying weekly emails that deliver them to parishioners. He’s had to seek out more ‘Catholics Can Laugh!’ stories too, to add to the regular weekly email.
After celebrating Mass on Thursday Fr D was removing the shepherd statues in our Christmas Crib (in preparation for the Feast of the Holy Family) leaving just Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. This is how things will remain until next Friday when the Wise Men will be placed in the Crib for the Solemnity of the Epiphany; sadly, this year, they will only be present for three days as Christmastide ends next Sunday with the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord . . . . .
