The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Once more a busy week around The Presbytery . . . . .
Fr D was off in the car early on Monday morning as he was being treated by a past parishioner of his to a day at The Oval in London. A tour was followed by a morning watching Surrey and Somerset play (during which he managed to catch the sun and turn red!) before entering the Members Restaurant for a very pleasant (and long) lunch. Sadly in the afternoon there were large thunderstorms all over London and, as they say - ‘rain stopped play!’
Things were back to normal on Tuesday as Fr D celebrated Morning Prayer and Mass before leaving the Blessed Sacrament exposed on the altar for private prayer and veneration until 11.00. Fr D also started work early on the newsletter as he had an all-day meeting coming up on Thursday.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday Fr D was concentrating on trying to understand what has been happening with the solar panels on the Parish Centre roof since the building opened. We should be receiving money for the energy produced surplus to our actual use but do not appear to have received anything? After a frustrating time he thinks this is going to take some while to get sorted (or even understood!). In the afternoon Fr D was fulfilling his position as Ship’s Captain for the ‘Ladies & Gentlemen in Lock-Down Cruise’ to Rome - attended by over thirty ‘passengers.’ Later, in the evening, Fr D met with the Parish Finance Committee; the first time that they had met ‘in person’ for over a year!
On Thursday, because he had a meeting in Chichester that was beginning at 09.30, Fr D was unable to celebrate Morning Prayer and Mass as he would usually do. This was a meeting of the Trustees of the BOSCO Catholic Education Trust to consider the achievements of the past year and to do some planning for the next academic year. This, too, was the first time in over a year since they had met ‘in person’ and not through a computer screen! When he got back in the late afternoon he popped into the Sisters next door to see if they had recovered from their cruise the day before. In the evening he completed a little more of the newsletter until he was too tired to continue, leaving some for Friday.
Having celebrated Morning Prayer and Mass in the morning on Friday Fr D had another hour completing the newsletter copy before handing it over to Sarah in the Parish Office to prepare for publication . . . . . .
