The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Things were finally a lot slower this week around The Presbytery (lots on holiday I suppose) and Fr D has been able to play catch up on several things that he’s just been too busy to get sorted over the past few months . . . .
Last Saturday Fr D was down in Our Lady of Consolation, West Grinstead church for a celebration Mass to mark fifty years of the restored Permanent Diaconate in the diocese. Since being ordained Fr D has spent most of his priesthood working alongside Permanent Deacons (at one stage he had three in the same parish!!).
On Monday Fr D’s Ministry to Priest’s Support Group were once again gathering at the Sacred Heart for their monthly meeting. All arrived for midday and spent an hour before the Blessed Sacrament before going in to Fr D’s study and celebrating midday prayer. Fr D then drove them to their normal local hostelry for lunch (this time with a new frequent flyer card which got them 20% off the final bill!). When they got back to The Presbytery they had a ‘review of life’ from the past month together. A little later the member of the group who has to be shielded due to cancer was on the phone to give his contribution to the group. Finally they celebrated Evening Prayer together before going their separate ways until next month.
Having celebrated Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday morning Fr D was off in the car to the diocesan offices in Crawley. His secretary was on holiday so he had to ‘fend for himself’ but managed to get quite a bit done on the first of a new pair of judgements. He also had to present an ‘induction’ to one of this summer’s new Parish Priests’ concerning the work of the Tribunal. In the evening he began work on this week’s newsletter (Sarah being away and the diary a little booked with a Holy Day Thursday and a funeral on Friday.
Having finished celebrating Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday Fr D was search for ‘Catholic’s Can Laugh’ pieces for the weekly electronic newsletter (he tends to get six months at a time ready whenever he gets the time). He was meeting Fr Ruslan (Walton-on-Thames) for lunch; which they have got into the habit of doing every month. When he got back in the afternoon Fr D got everything ready that he needed for the two Holy Day Masses for the Assumption.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Friday Fr D was rushing off to celebrate a funeral at Randall’s Park Crematorium . . . . . . . .
