The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Once more a fairly busy week around The Presbytery . . . . .
On Tuesday morning after Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition, Fr D set his mind to clearing the top of his study desk! Since Easter various pieces of paperwork have piled up and he wants to get a clear desktop for September when the new academic year begins. As he was going through the paper-pile he was pleased that a lot of it was effectively ‘junk mail’ and could be sent to recycling without having to spend much time on it. By late afternoon he was able to see large sections of the top of the desk and was pleased.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday Fr D went straight off to Bishop’s House in Brighton to begin a sorting of old Tribunal files to thin ‘historical’ things out. This has arisen because the two diocesan offices (one in Hove and one in Crawley) are all being merged from mid 2022 and whilst building work takes place in Crawley the Schools Commission are moving in to Hove. From September, therefore, Fr D is moving his office to a different part of Bishop’s House, until the move of all offices to Crawley. Frustrating as these things are it will, eventually, reduce Fr D’s journey time to the Tribunal each time by about half.
Fr D was meeting with the sound system engineer after Morning Prayer and Mass on Thursday to arrange the microphones and mixer unit for the singers and musicians, the last part of the new system. Fr D also got the chance to point out a couple of issues that have come to his notice and these were fairly easily dealt with. Whilst talking with the engineer he very kindly agreed to ‘plumb-in’ the old lapel and hand-held radio microphones from the old system into the present Parish Centre system. Eventually we’ll look at enclosing the Centre system in a locked rack cabinet to that everyone who feels like it can fiddle with the settings which has, over time, led to damage to the system. In the afternoon Fr D was fulfilling his role as ‘Captain’ of the ‘Ladies and Gentlemen in Lock-down’ cruise ship as it returned to ‘blighty’ at Southend-on-Sea. He was worried about what the food offerings would be from Southend but, in the event, was delighted at what was placed on his plate!
On Friday, Fr D completed the newsletter after Mass and prepared his weekday homilies for this week. He was meeting a friend in the afternoon who had not been able to see his ‘new Parish’ because of the various Covid lock-downs. He was delighted to be able to conduct a ‘grand tour’ of his new abode, and show it all off . . . . . .
