The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A very, very busy time this week as he final preparations for Bishop Richard’s visit to celebrate our Jubilee came together . . . . . . .
On Monday evening a very kind parishioner was continuing to work hard on the sanctuary carpet; having shampooed the carpet the week before, the wax of 30+ years was being attended to, using the tried and tested ‘hot iron’ method (which worked really well and got rid of a lot of the wax) - thank you.
After celebrating Morning Prayer, Mass and Exposition, Fr D went up to the Notre Dame School to celebrate a beginning of the school year Mass for the senior school. In the afternoon Fr D was taking a final look at the Order of Service for Sunday (re-checking for any typos and adding another verse to a hymn that he’d missed) before going ahead with printing. In the evening Fr D met with the parents of this year’s First Reconciliation/Eucharist candidates for the launch of the programmes. The candidates and their families will be at our 09.00 Mass this weekend for a more formal ‘Enrolment.’ Very early in the morning Fr D was with the electricians in the church looking for what was wrong with the lights above the organ and all the lighting associated with the Reconciliation Room. It was a great mystery but was eventually discovered to be two separate faults that just happened to coincide at the same time and all is now corrected. Fr D was off once more to Brighton after Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday morning for his usual Tribunal work. He almost gave up trying to get there though as it took 50 minutes to get down the short stretch of the A3 from Cobham to the M25 junction (I think that he was fit to bust by the time he turned on to the M25!).
Once Morning Prayer and Mass were over on Thursday Fr D was putting the finishing touches to a Prayer Card that will mark the Diamond Jubilee of the Sacred Heart. He also went off with a parishioner to purchase the wine for the Jubilee Reception.
After Mass on Friday the mechanics from the garage came to collect Fr D’s car for some recall work that has been called for - promising to get it back to him for 17.00 as he had a social engagement with the Catenian Circle in the early evening. Parishioners were in the church during the day to arrange the flowers for the Jubilee celebrations over the weekend . . . . . .
