The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A very full week around The Presbytery this week as schools are now fully underway once more for the Spring Term . . . . . .
On Monday morning Fr D was at Notre Dame School celebrating Mass for the staff as they returned to school for an Inset Day. He got into the school without incident but had to leave from another exit as the rain had caused the river to flood the road right under the underpass (and he said that he wasn’t about to risk taking the car through that with the battery underneath the car!).
After restarting Morning Prayer after Christmas, Fr D went on to celebrate Mass, and Exposition (again after a break for Christmas). He was off straight afterwards in the car to celebrate Mass at Notre Dame School for the senior school on their return after their holidays. After lunch Fr D was visiting one of the nursing homes in the Parish where there was someone receiving ‘end of life’ care. In the evening Fr D was meeting with the parents of this year’s First Eucharist candidates; with the candidates having celebrated their First Reconciliation in December they now move on to the First Eucharist programme (which will be celebrated on 15 th June, later this year). Fr D took the parents through the first session so that when they come with their children on Saturday they have all the answers for any questions the children might have. On Sunday the parents will formally enrol their children onto this year’s programme and the children will receive their new workbooks!
Wednesday, after celebrating Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D was working on the final dates for this year’s Confirmation programme. This has proved to be very difficult this year because the Bishop did not give us a firm date until the beginning of December; this meant that two sessions that Fr D would normally have got in before Christmas now have to be fitted in this side of Christmas. Also the date we have been given is the first weekend of the Summer Half-Term - all of this has made things difficult to get into Fr D’s diary. The programme will now start on Tuesday next week with a meeting involving parents and candidates, ready for the celebration to take place on 24th May at Arundel Cathedral with Bishop Richard.
Following Morning Prayer and Mass on Thursday Fr D was down to the Diocesan Office in Crawley once more, for the first time since before Christmas. Needless to say there were several enquiries awaiting him in his ‘in-tray’! . . . . . .
