The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Another busy week around The Presbytery as we begin to ‘gear-up’ for the Christmas festivities . . . . . .
It was wonderful to have a group of sixty French scouts join us at our 09.00 Mass last Sunday morning. They were staying at a local camp site (in lodges not under canvas) and walked down to church ready for Mass (I believe that another group will be attending this week also). It was also good to have several parishioners taking ‘time-out’ from the hustle and bustle of secular Christmas preparations to spend some quality time with the Lord at our celebration of Advent Evening Prayer and Benediction in the afternoon. Several parishioners also took the opportunity to come along to watch the ‘Nativity’ film at the Family Film Night on Sunday evening.
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday morning Fr D spent some time on his Christmas homilies (1st draft). In the evening he was delighted to realise that he did not have an evening meeting, usually he would be meeting with the parents of this year’s First Reconciliation candidates but their last meeting was last week and the celebration of First Reconciliation took place this Saturday. They all now have a break until we begin First Eucharist preparation in January!
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday Fr D had a young couple seeing him to begin their preparations for getting married. All couples who are getting married need to give a year’s notice to their Parish Priest and embark on a course of preparation during this time. This does sometimes cause couples to raise their eyebrows until Fr D reminds them that marriage is a life -long vocation and that a year preparing well for it is well spent ( he also sometimes tells them that he had to prepare for seven years for his life-long vocation!!).
Following Morning Prayer and Mass on Thursday Fr D went off down to the Tribunal Office in Brighton for the last time before Christmas to try and ‘clear the decks’ as far as he could. He signed several decrees to progress various marriage cases, and read up the initial applications for several people. As usual, just at the close of the year, several new applications seem to arrive. In the narthex on the noticeboard the new Marriage Annulment leaflet is now available - please do take and give one of these to anyone you think might be in need of more information (there’s no commitment) . . . . . .
