The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
On Sunday afternoon last weekend Fr D celebrated the first of our Advent Evening Prayer & Benediction services. Fr D likes these liturgies as they offer people a chance to step aside from all the secular hustle and bustle that goes on in the run-up to Christmas and spend a little time recollecting themselves and remembering what it is really all about!
On Tuesday, having celebrated Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition, Fr D was once more battling with the electricity supplier to get corrected bills showing 5% VAT (which we are entitled to as a charity). This time he was sent a form to complete which he has been assured will solve the issue? He also managed to get his car booked in for it’s service next Friday and finished his preparations for the launch of this year’s Confirmation Programme on Wednesday evening.
Wednesday, after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D was in the car and off down to the diocesan offices in Crawley to complete one of his cases ready for a judgement on Friday. In the evening he met with the Confirmation candidates and their parents in the Parish Centre to launch this year’s programme. We have four candidates this year and Fr D is looking forward to working with them to get ready for their reception of this sacrament on May 4th next year.
Thursday, after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D spent some time finalising his bits of the newsletter and got ready for a hospital appointment for his eyes in the afternoon. The appointment was at Leatherhead hospital and he delighted to discover that there was plenty of car parking (and it was free!). After the appointment he had to wait for about half and hour until he could drive home.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Friday Fr D was off down to Crawley again to meet with two other judges on the Tribunal to decide the outcome of one of his marriage cases. Usually the participants are informed of the result later in the day, with a written sentence following from Fr D once he has written it up. In the afternoon when he got back home he was ‘out to tea’ with a former parishioner from his days in Reigate.
On Saturday morning this year’s Reconciliation candidates celebrated their First Reconciliation at out Children’s Advent Reconciliation Service. Having done this they will move on to the First Eucharist Course in January . . . . . . .
