The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A very busy week all around The Presbytery this week as the final arrangements for Holy Week and the Great Triduum were made . . . . .
On Monday Fr D finalised his homilies for the Triduum services and then set about working out his packing list for his trip to Lourdes. In the evening Fr D was meeting with the members of the Parish Finance Committee to look at the budget for the first quarter of the year. They also had a presentation on ‘contactless giving’ from Mia Stace, the diocesan fundraising officer. It was agreed that this facility will be made available to parishioners in the near future - 67% of parishes in the diocese are already offering this facility to their parishioners.
Tuesday morning Fr D celebrated Morning Prayer, Mass and Exposition, before finalising with Sarah the Triduum booklet and setting it to print. The ‘altar of repose’ tabernacle was got out and given a clean ready for it to be used on Thursday evening after the ‘Mass of the Lord’s Supper’ - our sacristan made two internal curtains for the tabernacle.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday some of the preparations for our Holy Thursday liturgy were carried out - the purple colours were removed from the sanctuary in favour of white/gold; the ‘Lenten Alms’ box was removed to be counted and sent on to the diocese; the ‘Lenten Ladder’ was removed and put into storage until next year; the ‘glass chapel’ was prepared to become the ‘Altar of Repose’ and the seating arranged for ‘watching.’ In the afternoon Fr D completed work on this week’s newsletter before starting work on next week’s and prepared his ‘running order for the Holy Thursday and Good Friday services.
In the morning on Holy Thursday Fr D was over at Epsom to collect the ‘Holy Oils’ that will be used in the celebration of all the sacraments over the coming year. Fr D and our sacristan met up at midday to finish the preparations for the ‘Mass of the Lord’s Supper’ and the ‘watching’ afterwards. Fr D was very pleased with the way that things came together and the way the church looked!
Having stripped the sanctuary the evening before on Friday Fr D had the younger members of the Parish in the church at 10.00 for their own ‘Children’s Way of the Cross.’ Afterwards the final preparations for the ‘Celebration of the Lord’s Passion’ were done ready for the main Good Friday service.
On Saturday morning it was ‘all hands on deck’ to get ready for the vigil . .
